The Space Between Selves
A dark feminist blog exploring goddess mythology, modern womanhood, and female power through poetry, essays, and literary analysis. Along with some reviews of books I love.
Alisa Vitti and the Woman Code
For most of my life, I was taught to treat my hormones like a problem to be managed. Acne meant the pill. Mood swings meant pushing through. Fatigue meant trying harder. It wasn’t until I discovered Alisa Vitti’s work that I began to question whether my body was ever broken in the first place. What if it was simply cyclical, seasonal, and asking to be listened to?
In WomanCode and In the FLO, Vitti reframes the menstrual cycle as an internal rhythm, not an inconvenience. She invites us to stop forcing ourselves into steady, linear productivity and instead learn the language of our own biology. For me, this work arrived at a time when my hormones were shifting again, and I was searching for a gentler, more intelligent way to support myself. This post is part reflection, part exploration, and part invitation: to see our cycles not as something to fix, but as something to honour.
